The Walt Disney Company launches 'Ultimate Princess Celebration', a year-long event to celebrate how the Disney Princesses inspire all fans around the world.
'Disney Princess' is a one of Disney's many franchises, and probably the most popular, which includes every Disney princess created by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The list includes, in order of appearance, Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, 1937), Cinderella (Cinderella, 1950), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty, 1959), Ariel (The Little Mermaid, 1989), Belle (Beauty and the Beast, 1991), Jasmine (Aladdin, 1992), Pocahontas (Pocahontas, 1995), Mulan (Mulan, 1998), Tiana (The Princess and the Frog, 2009), Rapunzel (Tangled, 2010), Merida (Brave, 2013), Moana/Vaiana (Moana/Vaiana, 2016) and Raya (Raya and the Last Dragon, 2021). Merida is the only official princess in the franchise not be from WDAS but Pixar Animation Studios. Although included in promotional marketing by Disney themselves, and, in fact, 'Ralph Breaks the Internet' (2018), both Anna and Elsa aren't officially part of the 'Disney Princess' franchise.
To celebrate how the princesses' unique personality inspire people around the world, Disney has released a new song called 'Starting Now', performed by Brandy, who starred in The Wonderful World of Disney's 'Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella'.
The song will make its world premiere in the half-hour music special 'Disney Princess Remixed: An Ultimate Princess Celebration' on 27th August 2021 when it premieres on Disney Channel (check your local Disney Channel for information) and on Disney+.
Alongside the event, Disney Consumer Products, Games and Publishing will be releasing new merchandise, with much more to come in form of toys and collectibles from several other companies.
You can watch the video of the song here.
When you hear 'Starting Now' you can hear lyrics inspired by songs from movies like Aladdin, Frozen and Tangled.
A similar campaign was launched in 2016 to celebrate the addition of Vaiana/Moana to the 'Disney Princess' line, called 'Dream Big, Princess'.
While this celebration is for all people (although mostly only girls are used to promote it), the 'Disney Princess' campaigns are focused on to inspire young girls. Even the hit Disney Channel series 'Raven's Home', a spin-off of 'That's So Raven', released an episode called 'Raven's Home: Remix' in 2018. The episode features a song sung by one of the main characters, the 12-year-old Nia Baxter-Carter sings the song 'Legendary' (watch here) to her teacher who sets up a school play, but in which the teacher only wants a boy to play the lead role. Nia becomes disappointed and doesn't understand why a girl cannot play the role, too. The song became very popular, and Disney recorded the song with the young female cast from different Disney Channel series and movies to inspire other young girls (watch here).
