Why 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' is Worth Watching

One of the new Disney+ Original Series is not as popular as one should think.

No spoilers

What is the series 'Why This is Worth Watching'?
This post is the fourth in its series. It will feature movies or TV series that are less popular or could use more attention. Each post will feature my own opinion (TheDisneyFanBlog) as well as others' point of view. The purpose of the series is to get readers another way to see a production.

Before telling why the series is worth the time watching, the title itself needs to be explained. The series is titled 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' (also shortened as HSMTMTS). The series is in the HSM franchise and is about fictional students attending East High School, the same school the movies were filmed. They set up a school play of the first movie from 2006, and just like HSM is a musical, so is the series. In the end it is a musical series in the High School Musical franchise.

The series is a production of Disney Channel, which is also pretty obvious if you've seen any of the Disney Channel Original Series and then watch this series. Unlike several of the DCOS, the series' way to play the story is like 'Gabby Duran & The Unsittables' and 'Fast Layne', as you'll very much have to see all previous episodes to understand the story. Also just like the Argentinian Disney Channel series 'Violetta' and 'Soy Luna', although they're basically soap operas/telenovelas. You get to know the characters and see how they develope despite the low number of episodes. The series is filmed as a mockumentary, and while some find it difficult to watch, personally I find it a more realistic way to watch it, just as if you were behind the camera yourself. And if you've just seen a few of the newer DCOS, you might be familiar with the following actors: Olivia Rodrigo (Bizaardvark), Joshua Bassett (Stuck in the Middle), Sofia Wylie (Andi Mack, Marvel Rising) and Dara ReneĆ© (Freaky Friday (2018)).

What people most dislike about the series is the long title and a cast without Zac Efron or Vanessa Hudgens. But if you do not watch the series because of that, you're skipping so much. To get another perspective of the series, it would be the same to follow the production of one of Disney's Broadway musicals. You can also compare it if your kid (if you have one/when you get one) was attending a school and they should set up a school play. Maybe they would be filmed on and off stage to create a series about it. Here we just meet fictional students instead.

As I have mentioned a little about above, in the series we follow regular (and fictional) kids attending a school, all being fans of the original 'High School Musical'. They get a new teacher who wants to set up this school play of the first movie from 2006. We follow their journey from the teacher arrives at East High School to the premiere of the school play. We follow them on and off stage and see how they become friends, the drama and love between them and much more.

When you watch the series you'll see how each of the kids learn to be actors and how they interact with each other and learn what's right and wrong. The series takes the focus on the important subjects of divorce and homosexuality. While you or your kid might not be in the situation of this right now, it will help to understand how others are feeling in that situation, which is very important because it is in these situations no one should be lonely.

Only 10 episodes was produced for Season 1, all viewable now, but Season 2 will be released in the middle of May. Besides, two specials have been produced for Disney+, and an independent series is available as a sing-along edition.
