Today's Mickey Mouse's 89th Birthday

The almost first character for The Walt Disney Company is born today. Read more after the little break about the most famous character in the Disney universe and his life from 1928 to 2017

Happy birthday Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse

Mickey Mouse was born in the short film "Steamboat Willie" together with his girlfriend Minnie Mouse. Steamboat Willie was released on 18th November 1928. Today Mickey is 89 years old.

Mickey Mouse was created as a replacement dor Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. In the 1920's, Charles Mintz wanted Walt Disney to create a character for Universal Studios which later became Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 1927. Disney lost their rights to the character so to get The Walt Disney Company (the name of the company later in the history) more known they needed to create a new character. Both Oswald and Mickey was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Walt wanted Ub to make some new character ideas of animals. When Walt didn't had anything he met a mouse outside. He kept the mouse inside the studio and this was the inspiration for Mickey Mouse. Walt named the character Mortimer Mouse, but one day Walt showed his wife Lillian Disney the character she didn't liked that name. Lillian wanted another name and that was Mickey. The name Mortimer was later used to another character in the Disney universe as an enemy of Mickey.

In fact, Mickey was born in the first short film "Plane Crazy" which premiered on 15th May 1928. Later, Mickey starred in "The Gallopin' Gaucho" on 9th August 1928. Both of these short film were silent but they got failed. Until 18th November when the first sound cartoon came with Mickey Mouse and it was at this time Walt meant Mickey was born. From 1928 and few years after Mickey was voiced by Walt Disney himself. Later Mickey and to that day today, Mickey has been voiced by many different actors. Both "Plane Crazy" and "The Gallopin' Gaucho" was re-released in 1929 but at this time as sound cartoons. On 23rd May 1929, the short film "The Karnival Kid" premiered. This is the eighth short film and this is the first time Mickey speaks. His first word was "Hot Dog".

When Walt Disney began to produce movies and not so much short films anymore, Mickey starred in a part of movies instead. In 1940 the third Disney animated movie with a bit of live-action premiered. "Fantasia" was a movie with a lot of segments and music. One of the segments, Mickey is an apprentice for the sorcerer Yen Sid (Disney from behind).
In 1947 Mickey starred in the next movie with both animation and live-action. The movie was "Fun and Fancy Free" with three segments. "Mickey and the Beanstalk", the second segment of the movie, Mickey is together with Donald and Goofy to find a harpe which is stolen by Willie the Giant.
In 1983 "Mickey's Christmas Carol" was shown. The classic story from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol came with a little bit of Disney Magic. Here Mickey played the role as Bob Cratchit. Many years were gone and the next movie came with the iconic Disney character. In 2000, "Fantasia 2000" was shown in the theathers with a segment of the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Few years later Mickey starred in two movies and two TV shows. The TV show "House of Mouse" aired between 2011 and 2003. In 2002 a Halloween themed movie based on the TV show House of Mouse was made. The name was "House of Mouse Villains". After the ending of House of Mouse, Mickey became a musketeer one year later in the movie "Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers". The next TV show Mickey became a star in was "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" which ran from 2006 to 2011 on Playhouse Disney where Playhouse Disney was replaced by Disney Junior. The show ran then on Disney Junior until 2016.
Meanwhile, Mickey also could be seen in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse he also starred in the "Mickey Mouse" TV series on Disney Channel which ran from 2013 and to 2016 (I couldn't find any more episodes to air).

Since 1928 to 2017 Mickey has always been the mascot of The Walt Disney Company. Tons of merchandise are released through the years in many different shapes of Mickey Mouse, both with today's version and retro. And not only you can see Mickey Mouse as figure but a silhouette of him is to watch everywhere. The silhouette is three circles that forms like Mickey's head and ears. In movies like "Chicken Little" (2005), "Frozen" (2013), "Zootopia" (2016), "The Lion King" (1994), "Cinderella" (1950), "101 Dalmatians" (1961), "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937), "Dumbo" (1941), "The Rescuers (1977), "Lilo & Stitch" (2002), and "The Little Mermaid" (1989), there are many silhouettes of him or as figure. There are many silhouettes of Mickey in Disneyland Parks too.

The was a shorter version of Mickey's history throw his years since 1928.

Yes! You're right. There are many links to Wikipedia. I used a lot of different Wikipedia sites to make this entry, because I can't remember all of the information in my head (and I need some sources). Do not think about the sources. My entry is still right ;)
