Contains spoilers for Season 2 of Violetta.
Have you ever felt, while watching the wedding of Germán and Esmeralda in episode 59 and 60 of Violetta Season 2, that is was being rushed too much, with all the episodes they were preparing for the big moment? You might live in one of those countries, especially in Europe, where Disney Channel have censored some of the scenes from these two episodes of the series.
Actually, you cannot even find the censored scenes on Disney+, and that applies to Argentina, too.
What happens in the season that makes them censor the scenes? To take revenge on Germán, Jade tries to hire Matías' friend Marcelo to play the judge at the fake wedding of Germán and Esmeralda. He declines the offer, unfortunately. At the same time, the police are investigating the case about the five million that were stolen from Germán in Season 1, and they suspect Matías and Jade to be involved. When they can't find a judge, Matías disguises himself as a black man so he doesn't get recognised. While the wedding is going as planned and Germán and Esmeralda are getting married, Jade turns up and says Esmeralda is an impostor, with Parodi turning up a few seconds later. The wedding is then cancelled.
In fact, it is the so-called 'blackface' that made Disney Channel censor the scenes, as it can be regarded racial offensive. Due to the many scenes where Matías is disguised as a black man, the censoring has also led to leaving out a scene where Violetta and Diego are singing 'Te Creo' (I believe you*) at the wedding.
Luckily, Disney Latin America uploaded the song to YouTube years ago, so you can actually see one of the censored scenes. Watch it here.
You can also see images of the scene right below, revealing the disguise of Matías.
At the time Violetta aired on Disney Channel, it was a huge hit. Germany, Scandinavia, France, Italy and Spain, if not more countries, received DVDs of Violetta. Unfortunately, only Season 1 was released, except for France who received every single episode of the series.
If you are looking for episode 59 and 60, they can be found on the French DVD of Violetta Season 2 above (Saison 2: Partie 3) and they have not been censored. While episode 59 features approx. 2:20 minutes more and episode 60 15 seconds more than they probably would today, you will be able to watch the censored scenes. Sadly, the DVD is region locked, so do you live outside of Europe you will need to get a DVD player that can play Region 2.
Due to the Violetta DVDs being released many years ago, you should be very lucky if you can still find them somewhere on the Internet. eBay might be one of the places to look for them.
Even though you now have the chance to watch the scenes, the DVDs only contain French language, but the song sung by Violetta and Diego is still in Spanish.
*Although 'te creo' means 'I believe in you' in English, the official dub of the song has received the name 'I love you'.
