Oreo the Raccoon Passes Away at the Age of 10

The real-life inspiration for Rocket Raccoon.

It was a sad day on the 7th day of February when the news of Oreo the Raccoon had passed away at the age of 10 after a short illness. The racoon was used as the real-life model for the Guardians of the Galaxy's Rocket Raccoon, which made his debut on-screen in 2014.

The news was announced via the official Facebook page of the animal sanctuary (via The Wrap) he called home at the time.

"Our hearts are broken as we have lost our best friend, our Guardian of our Galaxy Mr Oreo Raccoon," the organization wrote. "Oreo passed away in the early hours of the morning after a very short illness. Many thanks to our wonderful vets for their compassion and care....Have fun up there over the Rainbow Bridge my darling. I hope, no I know they will all love you as much as we do. We will miss you so, so much" - ComingSoon.net

The racoon helped the special effect animators capture the "motions and behaviours for Rocket." Rocket Raccoon is voiced by Bradley Cooper and was last seen in Avengers: Infinity War.

Rocket Raccoon was created by Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen and was introduced in a comic in 1976.
